Neighborhood Watch

In 2018, with the approval of TPD, we decided to try to set up a neighborhood-wide Neighborhood Watch. We can use the existing RHENA Listserv for communication, and have the required yearly NW meeting as part of our Annual Meeting each year in October.

But for this to work, we need a NW Block Captain for each area of the neighborhood. The Block Captain should have contact information for everybody in their area. There could be one Block Captain, or Co-Captains, and the area should cover two blocks. We are looking for people to take on this role for their blocks.

We need Block Captains for 12 interior areas - the N & S halves of Olsen, Wilson & Jackson, and the E & W halves of Greenlee, Kleindale & Lind, and also for for Prince, Tucson, Ft Lowell, Avia Ricca and Richland Dr. This is a grand a total of 17 Block Captains. So far, we have 9. If you are interested in being a Block Captain for an area that does not have one, contact neighborhood.watch@rhenatucson.org.

The Block Captain(s) should become familiar with the people in their area and know how to contact them in an emergency. They should meet new neighbors and get their contact information. Neighbors should know how to reach their Block Captain. As it's important for neighbors to recognize each other, it would be nice to hold some kind of get-together, even if it's just gathering in the street on a nice evening. Neighbors don't need to be best friends, they just need to recognize each other. Getting house numbers painted on the curb for each house is highly recommended by TPD, so First Responders can locate a house quickly in an emergency. The RHENA Board can assist with this.

Check the list below to see if there is a Block Captain for your block. Contact your Captain(s) to introduce yourself and share your contact information. If there is no Block Captain, and you are interested, contact neighborhood.watch@rhenatucson.org for assistance.
